Sufism and Sufism Episode 18
There is an Arabic proverb: “Contemporary is the cause of hatred”
Being contemporary is the cause of hatred!
This proverb is used about the scholars of the Zahir and it is often true that the scholars of the same era have little love for each other, otherwise they express hatred in the form of criticism and objection!
But there is not a single incident of hatred between the inner scholars, that is, the Sufis. If the one who comes is young, they train him, if he is old, they earn his favor.
The famous Arab scholar Allama Sabuni, who was born in 1930 in Syria and died in 2021 in Turkey, was a great scholar himself and an expert in the Quran of his time, but his love for the famous Egyptian scholar Allama Shaarawi was unique. Allama Shaarawi was born in 1911 in Egypt and died in 1998. When Allama Shaarawi’s Quran lesson was on air on TV, Sheikh Sabuni would get off his chair and sit on the ground with both knees bent like a student sitting in front of a teacher.
During the lesson, he would sit completely silently and his family was ordered not to talk during it. If anyone did talk, he would stare at him sharply and forbid him. Sheikh Anas, the son of Sheikh Sabuni, would say, “Why don’t you sit on the chair?” Allama Shaarawi is not in front of you, he is on the channel
You are also a Quran interpreter, he is also a Quran interpreter, so why such an arrangement?
Sheikh Sabuni says
O my son, the knowledge of interpretation has been given to me by learning from teachers, while it has been given to Sheikh Shaarawi as an inspiration!
First of all, among us, there is no concept of politeness among scholars, if there is, then it is far behind the Arabs
Even today, Arabs kiss each other’s hands when meeting, but among us, they barely shake hands with both hands
A student of religious knowledge or a disciple gets the amount of grace of being polite and respectful to a teacher and a peer
The politeness of Sheikh Sabuni, even though Sheikh Shaarawi is on TV, this politeness allows one to reach those heights of knowledge and jurisprudence that cannot be achieved through continuous hard work and nights of wakefulness!
Wherever the teacher and the pir are, their literature is the most important for knowledge and spirituality. The teacher of religious sciences is the deputy of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the external Shariah. And the perfect Murshid is the deputy in the internal Shariah.
Therefore, the literature of these two personalities is very important because of the original literature!
